New Orleans Spray Foam Insulation Educational Pictures And Videos

Prep And Clean-Up

Proper preparation and thorough clean up should be essential features of a spray foam insulation project. To prepare for an insulation project EnviroGreen protects all windows and doors to prevent potential damage from over-spray. Perimeter eve and soffit areas are closed to ensure possible over-spray from exiting the house. Open headers and T's are drilled so as to fill these dead air spaces to create a truly sealed envelope. Finally, before the foam job begins an EnviroGreen representative will make a preliminary visit to the home and request to meet with the homeowner to go over any final questions or concerns. While many competing insulation companies charge extra for these services EnviroGreen believes that these quality control practices and damage prevention methods should be standard features on all insulation projects. When receiving competing bids make sure these services are provided in the contract.

The Federal Trade Commission has established particular guidelines for proper Labeling and Advertising of Home Insulation. Click here for a brief summary of these rules and regulations intended to protect consumers when receiving insulation bids.

3 Density Ranges

EnviroGreen, LLC installs the largest selection of spray foam products in the Greater New Orleans Area. Polyurethane spray foams come in several density ranges: .5lb or open cell, 1.2lb or hybrid and 1.7 to 2.0 or closed cell. Depending on your particular insulation needs one may be preferable over another. Sound control, water vapor content or humidity, structural integrity, pricing, environment friendly, and other factors play a role in which product may best suite your needs.

Fresh Air Ventilation

When tightening the home and creating a sealed envelope the introduction of fresh air will be necessary. This air ventilation is required to maintain healthy levels of fresh air and help dilute and remove moisture by creating a small level of pressurization in the home. ASHRAE 62.2 Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality and 2006 IECC compliance requires this ventilation to maintain a healthy home. If your HVAC contractor is not well-versed in this area we will be happy to work him and provide all necessary documentation in order to help create a comfortable, energy efficient and healthy home.

Combustion Air for Gas Appliances

Combustion air is required for gas appliances that are located in sealed attics. There are several ways to provide this combustion air. In most retro-fit projects EnviroGreen includes this combustion air (however, it is recommended that a licensed HVAC contractor is consulted for proper installation). When working with new construction projects the HVAC contractor is responsible for providing the combustion air.

Note: All EnviroGreen spray foams meet Audited SWRI 99-02 Appendix 'C' Crawl Space Comparison flame testing requirements which determine the surface burning characteristics of building materials, products, and assemblies in accordance with standards referenced by ASTM E84, NFPA 255, UL 723, UBC 42-1, CAN 4-S102. Without documentation demonstrating a passing SWRI 99-02 Appendix 'C' Crawl Space Comparison flame testing it is against code to install the particular spray foam without an ignition barrier such as sheetrock or certain thermal paint products.

Verification

Once the home is finished construction and meets inspections EnviroGreen will perform a digital Minneapolis Blower Door Test to check for the level of tightness of the home. Within minutes the vaccuum test will determine the amount of air leakage through the home's envelope. These reseults will allow us determine approximately how much mechanical ventilation, if any, is necessary to maintain proper NACH (Natural Air Changes per Hour) levels in the home. Through this testing EnviroGreen is dedicated to ensurring that the homeowner moves into a healthy energy efficient home.

Videos

Not all foams are created equal. EnviroGreen Sugarcane Open Cell spray foam insulation, offered exclusively by EnviroGreen, LLC licensed contractors, demonstrates unprecedented fire-resistant properties passing the large scale crawl-space comparison test (SWRI99-02) with a record breaking time of 26 minutes--at which point the fire source was completely consumed, forcing the termination of the test. No spray foam insulation has ever made it past 9 minutes.

What does the difference between 9 and 26 minutes mean? In the event of a house fire, it means everything.

Schedule a fire demonstration with your EnviroGreen consultant and see how EnviroGreen's Sugarcane Open Cell can insulate and protect your home.
